THE K-12 CURRICULUM
The K-12 Curriculum of the Department of Education (DepEd), Philippines is the country’s basic education program that covers Kindergarten to Grade 12. It was implemented to enhance the education system by making it more comprehensive and globally competitive.
The curriculum includes core subjects, applied and specialized tracks in Senior High School (Grades 11-12), and focuses on holistic development, critical thinking, and employability. It aims to prepare students for higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, or middle-level skills development.
Kindergarten to Elementary (Grades K-6)
Kindergarten is the first stage of formal education, focusing on basic literacy, numeracy, and social skills through play-based learning. Elementary education (Grades 1-6) builds on these foundations, covering subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, Filipino, and Araling Panlipunan, while also introducing values education, arts, and physical education.
Junior High School (Grades 7-10)
Junior High School continues core academic subjects with more advanced topics, including Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) and exploratory courses to prepare students for specialized learning in Senior High School.
